so here's a question...
y'know how everytime you fill out a form for 10% off all your purchases and the like, and you get a card, and it tracks everything you do - or everytime you make a return... well it all goes into a database... and they aren't supposed to share it (unless you say they can).
do the police have access to that?
i'm wondering if (for instance) i would want the police finding out that you're a frequent shopper at Teds Dirty Videos and Magazines..
hmmm.

Just use cash at the places you don't want people to know you frequent. Seriously. That's why we have ATMs on the corner of every other block.

Are you a fugitive?
Maybe you should invest in the anti brain scan hat.

It's not the dirty books and toys that bother me so much, hypothetically of course, it's the fact that they track my frickin time o'the month! I stopped buying such products at places where they use a discount card for the sale prices.

i don't have anything to hide - i just hate them knowing everything about me.
as for ATMs - my jackass bank "consolidated" and took atms out of the major malls for a convenient super location - that no one in their right mind would go to. EVERYONE goes to the mall, and they moved it. WHY!?
but that's another issue.
anyway, i think i'm going to setup a second name for all the cards and stuff i use. that'd be fun. i hate them "knowing" me.
they make billions of dollars and they *need* my info? blah spend some money and figure it out.

Rest easy friend, its VERY difficult for anyone to find out what your Video Rental habits are simply because there is a FEDERAL LAW protecting that info.
Why? well it seems when they were trying to confirm Judge Robert Bork for a Supreme court Seat - a reporter got a hold of his video rental list. Our elected reps figured out anyone could get that info so to keep the puplic from knowing what they watch, they passed a law.
Obviously, if there is a crime the police can get a subopena but you really have to show probable cause as why your video renting habits have a direct link to the crime...
As for the other data... Yes that's a problem but like others have said - just use cash or forego the discounts.
