I use very few checks. I was checking my bank account online and I noticed that my rent check for Oct. had been cashed. It was check #422. sept. rent check was #416. So i don't use very many checks at all; I do a lot of stuff online. I also noticed that my bank is now allowing me to view an image of my cancelled check. I can print it, fax it, send it by email, etc. That's pretty cool, but seems like a lot of work when they could just stick all my cancelled checks in an envelope and mail them to me.

The money spent on the computer to do a lot of that work is no doubt cheaper than the postage to send back cancelled checks.

I pay a lot of my bills online and use my debit card for almost everything. I rarely have cash anymore.

I pay as much as possible with the debit card. I use checks for a couple bills and giving money to someone. I always have at least some cash on me.

I don't write many checks anymore either. And then I went and forgot my login to access my checking account on-line so now it's been locked because of too many attempts by an un-authorized user (me). I have to call the friggin' bank to straighten that out.

I do most of my bill-paying online, with the exception of my mortgage. I want a plaper trail for that. I rarely use checks when I'm shopping, either. It's just so much more convenient to use my debit card.

I used to get checks back in the mail until I realized my bank was charging me for them. Since I didn't do anything with them. . .I don't even open the envelope. . .I quit having them sent to me.

What are you supposed to do with old checks anyway?

I think the banks are trying to get more peeps to do their banking online. I'd rather look at my cancelled checks online and print if needed that have the statement every month. I very rarely open the statements. I am working on getting my credit card bills online too. The less paper the better. I pay most bills online. And my mortgage is taken from my checking account automatically the first of the month. I probably write 3-5 checks a month.

Anyone heard of Check 21?

I pay all the bills I can online. There are only a few things I have to pay for with a check. And I never have cash!

Goes into effect Oct 28th. The original check will be convereted into an electronic check instantly. No more floating checks. And those of you that get your canceled checks back will only be seeing images of your canceled check as the original will be destroyed. It's the end of check writing as we know it.

A simple google search will give you all the information you need, plus your banks are sending out info about it.

Interesting. I've written checks at a few places and then had to sign something, had the money automatically debited from my account, and my check returned to me right then. Is this the same sort of thing?

Pretty much, but that is just with retailers. This is with everyone including banks.
