my son is sleeping in a tent in the backyard...this is the third night. I need sleep. The first night I felt okay, because the dog was with him and the tent is right beneath my window. I heard him yelling to the dog to settle down. My hubby came home and found that Bryce put the dog in the house. He told me he couldn't get any sleep with the dog. He says he's never slept better and he's out there again tonight.
This is the same boy that couldn't be in a room alone last year and still can't be in the basement my himself. But in a backyard, he's fine. Mom is not!! DH told me to go and sleep out there with him.

I used to stay mostly awake the times Aire Jr slept in the backyard.
Now they've taken to sleeping on the trampoline.

I wouldn't sleep in my backyard now having seen bears wandering through it (and looking for food) a few times over the summer months

How old is he?
I used to sleep in a tent in the backyard or in the woods across the street as a kid on a regular basis but only on weekends during school.

Yea, I can see the problem with him being 20 feet away from his mom. Sue, let it go, get your sleep, he will be fine. Its amazing how well kids can adapt.
Its a big adventure for him so let him enjoy it. In a couple of years he will want to go to K2 for his overnighter...

I did that as a kid. So did Larry (in fact, when he was 12 he slept in one for about three months!) His mother didn't care, according to him. He loves to tell that story.
My mother would have fits about me sleeping in the tent (why, I have NO clue. We lived in a suburban area with NO crime and no bears, either). It was a nice, big tent with mosquito netting that had belonged to my uncle. I LOVED that thing. I slept better outside than I did in my own bedroom, as I recall.
I wouldn't have a problem with it if it were my kid. I wouldn't worry about it as long as there aren't any bears running around, like Tim said.

The only thing that concerns me as they get older is: will they go trolling the 'hood when they are supposed to be sleeping?
