i'm not really a mid-packer but i want to be a lot faster. i usually finish 2nd in the 1600 in school but its usually by about 5-10 seconds. i'm looking to improve that so i can stick with someone the entire race.
on thursday at our league track meet(middle school) i ran a 5:28 and was 10 seconds out of first place(i got 3rd). this summer i want to drop my team to the low 5's somewhere but i don't really have anywhere to ask what to run and how fast and often.
does anyone here know of any good workouts that can help someone my age get faster?

I would start with your track coach. They will know where you are at. After some summer base, hard intervals.

actually i would not start with my track coach. he was only focused on the sprinters and never sent the distance people out to run by themselves. last year i shaved about 45 seconds off my tryouts time. this year it was only 20. and also he does not work at our school so i would have no contact with him
