Posted: 09/04/03 - 19:19 Post subject: work-life balance.
so i'm fully aware that i can't do a whole lot at one time, ie. sports, school, work, g/f and a social life.
i admit to that.
at any given time i rarely have more then 3 things on my plate.
currently school is giving me a whizbang lesson in plate heapings. a solid 5 classes a day (6 courses a term, 3 terms in the year), it's a healthy dosage of work.
so yeah, whatever i'll deal with that.
the problem is meanwhile my g/f now has nothing to do, and even though she's gonna join a gym go to university, hockey, teach sunday school (on my day off no less?) and all this other stuff, she still wants time with me. she still seems to think deep down that somehow someway i'll still get to see her everyday.
she says she's gonna need some time to get used to it, but it's two days in and *wow* do i ever not have the patience. of all things, i can *least* handle is being held back from my school work.
i know i need to give her a chance, and i know about my balancing problems, but she's gonna have to give alot because at somepoint she needs to learn how to get along without me (since she can already balance her life just fine). i already bend over backwards to see her all the time, i'll be damned if my school is going to suffer or if i'm going to get ill because of it. i just don't know.
so now i guess when i attempt to make time for her and she says "are you sure?" am i just going to have to say no and study anyways? *sigh*
please excuse me while i go have dinner and attempt to remain positive.

You sure are frustrated and have a lot on your plate right now. I remember those days quite well.
Went I went to FSU, I had a serious relationship. However, I made sure school always came first. I was lucky enough to go to college and get an education. Anyone who cared about me in the slightest understood my lifetime goals and knew where my priorities were. I did date the same guy through graduation, but we eventually went our separate ways. You see, I got my degree and he was still stuck in "I don't know where I'm going land".
In retrospect, I am very glad that I put my education first. I knew that it was my ticket to branching out into the real world and being self-sufficient. You are currently in a stage where you are building the foundation for your future. You'll get through it and have time for the serious stuff (ie relationships) later. Believe me...when you get out into the real world... LIFE can be tough. So, your education is an important part of making it ok.
Take a breather. Take it day by day. If this girl cares about you, she'll understand.

WOW - 6 classes a term? That's insane!
Despite your unflattering comment in your tagline about my fair city , I offer this advice: you have to eat, so does she. Perhaps you could schedule meals together so that you at least see her a few times a day? That way you're showing her that you still care about her and want to spend time with her, but you don't have to carve out any additional time.
Like nole' said, worry about your education first. You can always spend time with your girlfriend afterwards, or get a new one if she doesn't stick around, but you will NEVER get a chance to make up a bad grade. Take it from one who knows.

I read Timruns posts and start to relive those college glory days, but then get to Blue's here and realize, yep, it was an incredible juggling act. Usually 5 classes going for me too, 40-hr work weeks, sports teams, training and yep, courting the future mrs.jrjo. Throw in plenty of time with "da guys", family functions, driving a Gremlin (read..breakdowns), playing mediator with a couple friends in a "Sam and Diane" relationship and dang.. college was a big chore!!
