in Torino (Turin) Italy, can someone either Catholic or Italian or both explain to me the Shroud of Turin? I don't mean pick it apart or dispell myths or what not, but just what it is and what the beliefs are? I don't even know what it is and I've heard the phrase "Shroud of Turin" a few times in the last few days...can you explain? Mary's shroud? And if so, why in Italy and not say Jerusalem? (or am I really confused?)

It is supposed to be the cloth they wrapped Jesus in after the crucifiction. It supposedly has His blood, and an image of Him is on it.

Ahh. Thank you.
Is it named after Turin or Turin named after it and what is its affiliation to Italy?

I mean, geography isn't my strongest subject but in my mind the crucifiction happened far from Italy....

The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist (Italian Duomo di San Giovanni, "Dome of Saint John") was built in Turin during 1491-1498. It is adjacent to an earlier campanile (1470). The Chapel of the Holy Shroud, the current resting place of the Shroud of Turin, was added to the structure in 1668-1694.
