Just got back from the salon. I know we've talked about this, and everytime I go to the salon I mull this over. How much do you tip? Flat amount? %? and what about the owner thing? If they own the salon, do you still tip?

I give her 10 bux for my $8.00 haircut. It takes her like 10 minutes to cut it. Mr. Green

It took me years to find Rimma, my fantasmagoric Russian hairbitch, so I love her and give her 20% always, and a nice Crimmus present too.

I'm usually a 20% tipper for haircuts. What Mazie has had to put up with from me is worth that. And she's not the owner. I don't think I've ever had a hairdresser that was also the owner. I'm interested to see what anyone else does about that.

I used to get my hair cut by the owner. I never tipped her. I don't think she expected it.

I give 20% for the cut. If someone else shampoos, I give them $2-3.

I have been going to the owner of this wonderful place for 4 years, he was the first person after a year of living in Houston who didn't 'mullet' me and everything he does to my hair has been fantastic. Love. Him.

He is pricey, but he's also so good that when his cuts grow they grow out well, so I usually try to only go once every 2-3 months (now that I don't have any color to touch up) so I kind of compensate for my lack of going and his ability to squeeze me into the schedule and do a wonderful job time after time by overtipping, today I paid him 25%

There is a rumor that you're not supposed to tip if he's the owner. That seems rude/odd to me.

I think they make a percentage of everyone else's cuts, that's why they don't get tipped. They're already being tipped.

i did go to a stylist who was very good and who owned the salon. i had heard thru her other clients that she "jacks" the price to cover her tips cuz no one ever tips her cuz she's the owner. i hate when someone "jacks" my price. i heard this after i had been tipping her.

who knows? Confused

I'm actually not sure that is how this place works...I think the other guys are independent, although I guess they pay him for a place in his salon. I just figure I would tip anyone for what he does, particularly as well as he does it.

I used to have a wonderful hair guy. He owned the business and was the only one who cut hair. I went there faithfully for 10 years, never tipped (who knew?) in fact Ralph charged me less than the prices he had listed. Keith used to get the tips of his hair highlighted and Ralph never even charged us for that. I miss Ralph. My hair just hasn't been the same since. Mad
