What's wrong with flipping burgers? I did it for 3 years when I was a teenager. It was one of the fubbest jobs I ever had.

How about a sales job at some kind of appliance/electronics store...alright pay with commission opportunities...Plus, it's always good to get some sales experience under your belt (figuratively speaking of course).

i just refuse to do it. i promised myself i wouldn't. i had my "bum" job for 4 years working the arena hawkin' pepsi & popcorn back when i was 12.
i just don't want to do it. i'd rather work in a mail room (lol actually i'd love to work in a mail room).
i'm completely aware that other people have more experience, i'm not looking for 50Gs a year here. lol. i like to think there's more i could do then flip burgers.

Another good tactic is to go volunteer (I know, you need the cash- but hear me out) for a non-profit business. You might have to ask around, but you should be able to find somebody that needs help doing 'business stuff' in the front office. Help them with PC support, help them make flyers to send out, do something. Then you get to put the experience on your resume and the volunteer thing makes you look really cool to the hiring manager of your next job.
Because it is volunteer, you should be able to engineer it so that it isn't too many hours of your week.

Listen to the X-man! That's exactly what I did...great experience and it's quite impressive as well.
Look into your local Big Brothers/Big Sisters chapter. Since you live 'up there' I'm not sure what kind of non-profits you have...

Bouncer at the Pretty Kitty really doesn't count as volunteer work.

RX - actually volunteer work is a good way to do it. but i was thinking along other lines. i read a good way to get promotions, is too simply offer to do the job for a little while so they can try you out, but stay at your same pay rate. so at a good firm i'd offer to just do some work for them to see how much they like me (not the dropped "if" they like me.heh). and take it from there.
i do volunteer about 32hrs in 3 days each year at provincial track . i've always been one to help set up school stuff, do the grunt work, i was always the one staying 4 hours after to help take it all down when everyone took off to the post-dinner thing without doing much of anything. lol done lots of hardwork. *where do you put that on your resume?*

the best part is he says the training is like a month long (tech support for a fedex shipping thing). and i could just quit after. lol. actually i'd only work there as long as i could handle it for the cash.
hmmm... (i could spend the day on the computer too and be just like you guys!!!)
