Posted: 04/14/04 - 13:46 Post subject: who knows anything about artificial sweeteners?
I was reading a scary article in the local paper about artificial sweeteners and apparently every artificial sweetener you've ever consumed stays in your system forever. Your brain feeds on sugar (real sugar) and their are pathways for the sugar to travel to feed your brain. Since artificial sweeteners mimic sugar, they make it to the brain but since there are no pathways for them they just stay there forever. IF this is accurate, that's dang scary.

I was having a boatload of undefinded physical aches and pains--and was drinking a boatload of diet soda (about 1-2 a day). A concerned RRer mailed me some documentation on diet drinks that contained a certain type of sweetner. I figured I had nothing to lose by giving them up. I did on Oct 24th--and within a couple of weeks, the pain I had had for several years was completely gone. Too much to attribute to coincidence.
*Now, I understand that there are diabetics who MUST use these types of sweeteners. All I am saying is that since I didn't need them, it was no biggie to give them up. I have seen such an improvement in my joint mobility and lack of aches. I used to be able to tell you when a storm front was coming through my joints hurt so bad. No more.
I know someone else who gave them up and has achieved similar results.

wiseguys -- all of ya.
it's all those fake sugah molecules trapped in that gray matter reaking havoc.
nothing suprises me about artificial sweeteners. they are so chemical, just not supposed to be ingested in my opinion. so glad my diabetic son doesn't need them at all anymore, in fact he has only a limited amount of diet soda.
they taste so icky. and skank.

FWIW, I was just asking my friend who is a dietician (and my constant reference on this site it seems) about whether she thinks aspartame is dangers. She says all the studies she's seen showing any sort of damage (as with the article posted by RB) was with LARGE quantities in rats. LARGE. the equivalent of literal boatloads of aspartame. And in that quantity even things like vitamin C are unhealthy. She still recommends and eats/drinks aspartame herself with no fear and recommends as with everything use in moderation.
