Are they always a format that can't be converted? I have ones I've gotten and downloaded some converter software, and it couldn't do it, said they were protected. Is it the mp3s themselves probably? I wanted to make some mix cds with some songs....but maybe when you buy the mp3 you can't ever convert to WAV files??? Pooh!
Anyone know for sure about this?

What I do, is burn them to a CD-RW, make sure they go on the CD-RW as a MP3, then load the songs back on to your computer from the CD-RW.

You mean then you can convert them over to WAV files?

WAV is the native format for music on an audio CD, but I think here is that you'll take the copy management out of the picture.
When you buy music online, they add some extra bytes to the mp3 that identify how many plays/copies/burns/... you can do with it. When you write it to the CD, I think it's removed. Then when you rip the song off the CD, it's gone!

Only when you write it to an audio CD, not in a data format. Then rip it back to mp3 or which ever format you desire.
