I usually do it the night before she's home with him, so she will have all day the next day to at least put it away. 90% that never happens. I wind up doing that part too. I do all of the dishes. I wash Michael's stuff by hand right after he uses it, just so it's ready and clean for the next meal. Everything else goes in the washer, and I do that as well. As for general cleaning, sweeping, etc., that's alot me as well. Hmm, maybe I shouldn't have thought about this...I'm getting frustrated. |
you'd make someone a great housekeeper, randy! can I hire you?

As long as you don't leave all of those dirty Scottish kilts laying around!

Things at Chez Partay tend to split down traditional gender lines. Sometimes the other pitches in, but primary responsibilities include:
elkid: laundry, grocery shopping, dusting, payin' da bills
The Paramedic: pool work, lawn work, trash/recycles, car washer, bathrooms
Equally shared: vacuuming, cooking, dishes, dog duty
Fortunately I married a man who is not too concerned with clutter. If it comes between going out and having a good time or cleaning house, the house loses every time. Life's too short to worry about such things. Besides, you can always GO OUT to eat with your friends!

While Buffy does most of the cooking (her choice with no problem from me), I do the cleaning in the kitchen (dishwasher, stove, sink, et al). She does most of the other cleaning; vaccuming, picking up, et al. I do most of the laundry, and the dogs are entirely my responsibility. Kid chores we split evenly.
All bill paying is mine.
It is a pretty good deal.

Both the Mr. and I work but I usually have a week day off so I do laundry and cleaning on that day. (I don't like doing chores together on our one day off together. Those days I'd rather play.) He is the best and does the dishes and cleans the bathroom. Those are the 2 things I detest the most. As long as he does those 2 chores I don't mind doing all the others.

I work 3 days a week, Jerry full time.
Jerry cooks, does the grocery shopping, mows the lawn and takes out the garbage.
I do the laundry and most of the cleaning and day to day straightening up and keeping things in the house running (knowing who is supposed to be where when).
The thing I would like more help with is just keeping things picked up. Am I the only one who sees the dirty towel in the middle of the hallway? I must be, because everyone else walks right over it.
Jerry does a lot, but even when we both worked full time, I did more around the house.

We split stuff pretty fairly; if anything he does more of the "real cleaning" stuff like dusting; I do more of the straightening up stuff like washing dishes out and loading the dishwasher, throwing stuff away, picking stuff up off of the floors, etc. I do laundry because he hates it; he cleans the bathtub because I hate it. We're pretty fair in the kitchen; whomever cooks gets out of cleaning it up for that night.
We have a once a month cleaning lady but are probably going to get rid of her temporarily . I am pretty sure if I ended up unemployed I'd be expected to do a bit more but since we don't have children it's not really as big of a deal as I am sure it is if you have more household members that don't clean/cook but add to the mess.
I think I'll be doing a bit more in the next couple weeks or so depending on what shakes with his hand but I don't care; when I've been sick or injured he's done everything so I can at least return the favor.
I am starting to think I am luckier in this department than a lot of people; perhaps that is what I will be thankful for today.

Since I have more days off I do a little bit more but it is usually done on a what needs to get done basis. I do not bother keeping track. If it needs to be done, then it gets done.

I have to give it up to Pebbs-
she does 95% of the cooking-save for grilling
she is the Swiffer Sweeper Queen on the tile and hardwoods
she does more than 1/2 of the laundry.
I do whatever needs attention and the big projects.
But she really keeps everything together.
Our big task is to get/keep the kids doing chores. (Why else did we have them?). No, no our kids are just beginning to get more independent about helping out. By independent I mean without Mom and Dad yelling
"Will someone unload the #$%^&*# dishwasher"

For the summer I have a house husband since he is working more or less part time.
We try to split it up fairly evenly. Although at times one or the other of us feel a little "put upon" like we are doing more than the other. I must admit he does a much better job with the vacuuming and I do better with the cooking so those jobs are pretty much a given.
Neither of us are too much of neat-niks so the stuff that has to be done is done first.
A little dust never hurt anyone! Take that, Martha Stewart!
