I would distinguish between the ones who met their untimely demise through circumstances beyond their control (Stevie Ray Vaughn, to wit) from the ones who offed themselves out of substance abuse problems.
It's hard to get all wistful over someone choking to death on their own drug induced puke.

If Elvis was still around, we could have seen him race Ozzy.

i have to totally agree with EL here. i like to believe Janis and Morrison accidentally overdosed themselves - like, whoops, i killed myself. Kurt Cobain, on the other hand, invalidated anything and everthing he ever did when he stuck that shotgun in his mouth.

No difference in my book... overdose of powder, pills or pellets, they're all responsible for checking themselves out early.
