Me!
I think this is misleading - it would be a more accurate account if the chart was of the median rather than the average. All it takes is a few high-paying jobs to skew that number. I could see that being a starting salary for a PHD ChemE, possibly even an MS, but not just a BS. |
yay for math! the median is the most frequently occuring number if i recall correctly.
so far my diploma has set me back 2G's... |
actually the median is the value in the exact middle of the data... |
*shrugs* lol it's been a year since i've dealth with "those" words. but wouldn't it make more sense to list the number that most people got paid? |
Yes, it would.

The program I want to finish my degree in costs $12k. (And that's only because most of my degree is done) Although it's a field I'd really enjoy, the costs just don't outweigh the payback once I get the degree. So, I am at a re-evaluation point. Mr Aire is supah generous and said to go for it, but I don't want to be saddled with that kind of debt on top of him finishing his master's and Colin heading to college in five/six years.

Mode - yes, I believe so. But it's not necessarily the middle number.
Example: 1 2 3 4 5 10 10 10 10
The average would be 6.1, the mode would be 10, but the median is 5.
I'm a dork, and that's ok.

ah. so it could very well be that salary most people get paid is the highest, with the rest of the office making less then you.
lets just accept the fact that aforemention "ranking" is poorly concieved, and call it a day
