The most expensive private school here ($7g per year for an elementary student) held a meeting last night and told the parents that they are in trouble financially and if they want the school to remain open they need cash. Right now. Imagine being those parents.

If they are charging C$7,000 a year per student and are having financial trouble sounds like a management problem.

The C$ closed on the NY Market, yesterday at C$1.3353 per US$. C$7,000.00 would equal US$ 5,242.27

That seems like a lot of money, for them not to be breaking even.
But, it depends on how much private schools in Canada can get from the government. In the US the government helps to supply books, bus transportation, etc... to private schools.
If Canada's Govt doesn't... I can see where they would have some trouble keeping the doors open. School stuff is spensive.

As 'principal' of our homeschool, I really gotta chime in on this as being a misnomer. We're educating our boys on less than $1000/yr.
Education, in the purest sense of the word, doesn't need to be a high buck proposition. As both an accountant and a parent, the money that gets spent on education in this country is in a sorry state from what I see.
$7000 a year should be a Cadillac ride for elementary kids. This kind of story leads me to believe that school is run by pure blockheads.

ah yes, but you have a large number of expenses eliminated. No utilities, heat or water bill. No building upkeep. No building maintenance personnel. No travel expenses.
Of course home schooling is going to be less expensive. If they are recieving very few gov't funds...and cost of living is high there...I can see where it's tough.
Not saying they can't/couldn't be more effecient with their money, but running a school costs money.

I also forgot to add that you are paying no teachers, administration, cooks, etc, etc...
If you figured your wife as a school teacher's average wage...since that is the job she is doing...I think you'd find your cost per child is actually quite high.
