Yep there is some big money in it. Only the top few guys actually make a decent living doing it. When you get that level of fishing it's beyond just going out fishing though - these guys are scientists in their own right. They know more about the peculiarities of their target fish than most marine biologists. And they really do work their butts off - they don't cancel pro walleye tournaments on Erie until the waves are around 7' tall and above.

I imagine with all the equipment you'd just about break even if you weren't tops in the field.

They make their big money thru sponsorship. But, of course, you can't get sponsorship money w/o winning some tournaments on your own. I'm a weekend warrior and I've got well over $10k invested in fishing gear including boat, motor, etc. These guys are starting out in $30-40k boats and probably that much more in fishing "stuff".

You dog! I LOVE beer battered fish. It is one of God's most perfect creations. With a side of slaw and fries and a little malt vinegar--I'm a happy camper.

Erie is rarely ever that calm. For some reason the last two times we went up there though it was like glass. Fishin' is better with a slight chop but I'll take these nice days anytime.
