Posted: 08/01/03 - 08:41 Post subject: what have you learned THIS week?
It's a special day for The Kid. 13 years ago today I chose life over death, self preservation over self destruction, and am amazed at the turns, twists, and surprises in the road I've followed since. As I reflect on where I was and where I've been, I'm glad a lot of you have been there with me - thanks.
I've learned:
- no matter how hard you try, you may never get along with your siblings
- when over-microwaved, breakfast sausage does not explode - it gets hard enough to crack teeth
- the smile of joy from a child, particularly when it's a result of your efforts, can melt the hardest of hearts
- you can fight it all you want, but less IS more
- discovering you're an inspiration to others is extremely humbling
And you?

I've learned:
that I'm getting in pretty good shape.
that I'm ready for summer school to end. (3 hours 10 mins to go!)
that Keltic is big-mouth!
that Happy and Dancer are my new heroes!
that Team Abbey is just plain whoopin some tail!

I learned PH thinks he's 'soft'
I learned no matter how hungry you think you are, 2 donuts at one sitting really is never really a good idea
I learned my cats feel the 'need' for treats is extremely urgent, particularly at 3 am and will do whatever it takes to get me up to get them one.
I've learned that even if you feel like you aced an exam, you didn't necessarily
I've learned summer school after 4 weeks every night for 4-5 hours a night starts to really suck lemons, and that I'm bitter towards those who's time in summer school (coach) is over.
I also learned that there often is a silent majority that the media ignores...(or conversely that 'squeaky wheels' or in this case loud rednecks get the 'grease'/media coverage).
I learned the Dixie Chicks still rock the house.

I learned that 'extra Jalepenos' at the local Subway means "Make me a jalepeno sandwich." My.gut.is.on.fire.
I learned that Bob Glover is nuts. I'm not getting back down to 158 for no man.
I'm learning that I really hate to sit through movies. Is that so bad?

I've learned that furniture on a showroom floor will be MUCH bigger when placed in your bedroom. (extra room my )
Taking an extra rest day for injury will not cause me to keel over and die.
August is now here, and I must come to grips with returning to work soon.

that Kevin, the teenager with Downs Syndrome at our grocery store, is truly their most valuable employee. that when he tells me to "have a nice day" i take it to heart and know that he sincerely means it. that Kevin's smile comes from a place so deep within his heart, i can only imagine.... Kevin is the king of integrity in that place. Kevin rocks my face off.
that even when you want to whoop him, or grab him and shake him, or just plain ignore him; hugging your teenage son in that moment will absolutely make you feel better. I believe it makes him feel better too. must. hug. him. more.
that this once upon a time "princess" has never ever really learned the lesson in hard work with a payoff. i am so selfishlessly hoping i can learn that lesson thru running.

That paradoxically when layoffs occur, it can make you really proud to work at your place of business.

Isoceles is way fubbier than Equilateral
Robp's farting ability is highly respected by all.
If I were to spray paint a bunny tonight, many Riff Raffers would be offended.
If I were to paint the bunny, then eat it, many would be downright angry.
Mawwage, dat dweem wivvin a dweem, dat bwessed awangement, is a big topic around here lately.
Some people here think I'm an ass.

My dumbass brother learned that years ago when he put his chrome rims back on his chevelle after winter was over.... he lost it, spun out and took out somebodys split rail fence in addition to really messing up the quarterpanel of his car.
