our 80 gallon water heater malfunctioned last night and sent water all over my basement. Lots of water damage.

Here are the calls I made.

Greg for his video camera and shop vac
Plumber to replace the water heater
Insurance company to start the claim.

The insurance company is sending over a water clean up company this morning and the plumber will be here by 0900.

Pretty extensive damage but nothing critical.

I need a new rug in the basement anyway.

That sucks! Was it the hose? I hope you didn't have anything too valuable down there and that they are able to repair everything quickly. We've known several people to have that problem, people who had their hot water heaters not in the basement and needed new dry wall, carpet, furniture, appliances, etc. Hot water has a way of really destroying things. My parents current house (here in TX where we have no basement) strangely has the hot water heater in the attic above the second floor. That keeps my mom up at night I think, the thought of hot water raining through the ceilings and into the entire house....

OH Man! That is a big mess!
Simalir thing happened to my ex bf's house. He woke up one morning went down stairs to do some laundry, slipped on the water, threw his back out and noticed the other side of the basement was full. Who do you think go to clean it up? Smile

Make sure when you have the new water heater installed, they put one of those galvanized water heater tubs underneath. HD and Lowes sell them as well. They contain leakage and have a gardan hose connection that you can use to rout the water to a sump pump should you have a leak.

I am basically going to get a new finished basement for free. I bet we have over 10K in damage right now, that is just in material and items.

not counting all the labor involved.

I have to say, Allstate insurance has been fantastic, they followed up and followed through with the contractors who came right on time. I was told to do nothing, let the contractors do all the work and just let everything take care of itself. Thankfully nothing valuable was damaged.

I actually am fine with what happened. This is why we have insurance. Greg came right over with his camera so I could get my own video evidence for the future. I left for a function at school then to a party in the afternoon without any worries. THe contractors did an excellent job and the plumbers safed everything for now until they can come back on Monday. I may not have hot water for a few days but that is okay. Robin's sister lives 1/2 mile from us and we can all us her shower until the new hot water heater is in.

Funny thing is when I first saw it, I saw the cats like this Shocked Shocked one on top of the litter box and one on top of the food bucket, waiting to be rescued. That was so funny to see.

Mr. Green

First thing I thought of was cats wearing little orange life preservers.

Those would be perfect for that! They will not however hold up a 225lb. man(who cannot swim) who jumpts off the side of the boat out in the middle of the lake. I'm just sayin'

The cat's were kinda funny looking. Between the water and the puppy, they could both use some Valium teehee
