is more disappointing then i ever thought. we totally should've won the mens moguls - this kid KILLED it, but had a bit of a bumpy landing... he easily had the best tricks.
the last guy (the millionaire CANADIAN BORN repping australia) whomped everybody winning gold and knocking our bronze guy out.
anyway - i haven't seen the canadians win anything (or place) and that's disheartening.

I don't really have that much national pride when it comes to the Olympics. I find the real entertainment is watching the best in the world do their thing, regardless of who they are representing.

An interesting quote to support that:
Why do you have to wear the uniform of your country? Why do they play the national anthems? Why do we have to beat the Russians? Why do the East Germans want to beat the West Germans? Why can't everyone wear the same colors but wear numbers to tell them apart? What happened to the Olympic ideal of man against man?
Interesting in that this non-political comment came from John Carlos in 1968. The same John Carlos who made the political protest of the 'Black Power' salute (with Tommie Smith) at the Mexico City Olympics.

Now, wait just a minute. Are we watching the same Olympics? I mean, is there boxing in the Winter Games?
But think about how that guy (with a really good tan) must feel, being k.o.'d by a millionaire!

Over 35 years ago and I still have vivid memories of that medal presentation.
I'm not one for using sport for protests, but thankfully, because they made a stand it did make a difference.
Smith and Carlos paid dearly for their protest they were kicked of the relay team and sent back home.
Running trivia:- Name the silver medalist who stood on the dais with Smith and Carlos. He didn't raise his hand but wore the badge of the Olympic Project for Human Rights in support of Smith and Carlos.

Although he had some comments (though not as vitriolic - in the States, anyway) about the "White Australia" policy, hence his support for Smith and Carlos.

Tommie Smith only had the one pair of gloves. That's why he wore the right one and John Carlos wore the left one.

Peter Norman - The Gloveless One
I met Tommie Smith. It was five years after the Olympics. He was the track coach for Oberlin College. I was attending Otterbein College and we were hosting a meet. I helped with some of the events. I was a timer for the 100m race. Each timer was given a runner - "You take the second runner over the line." As it turned out, the runner I timed was from Oberlin College and Tommie Smith walked along with me and asked me what time I had. I never felt so good when I learned that both of us had the same exact time. And let me tell you, he was tall! It was like, if he was 6'2", five feet of height was due to legs. No wonder he won the 200m!
