but i'm trying to decide on whether I want to buy in the neighbourhood i grew up in, that I love, it's nice and quite here in the summer but it is also where my mother can 'drop by' when ever it suits her fancy...
Or do I move to a totally different part of the city where I will be closer to work and other amenities...
i'm torn

My personal rule, is to never live closer than 30 minutes to any relative. This way they can come help you when you need it but keeps them from just stopping by when they are bored...

make a list of pros and cons... go with the longer list.
is money an issue? do you want to love your mom in 5 years?
my g/f's grandparents lived directly across the lane from the great grandparents... the grandpa had to deal with his mother in law his WHOLE LIFE... we noticed a visible difference in his happiness upon the recent death of his MIL... (true story).

Unfortuneatly that wouldn't work for me. No matter what side of the city i live on, there is a relative very close by...

thats a good rule. we live about three miles from matt parents AND grandparents. his mom and grandfather drive by all the time and honk their horns. on monday i was trying to work out and the mil, fil and the bro stopped by just to act like they needed to go to the bathroom.
