Posted: 09/09/02 - 09:38 Post subject: Sioux Falls 1/2 Marathon Results
The Sioux Falls 1/2 marathon was Sunday(in Sioux Falls of all places!) this is how I did.
I started the race not wanting to kill myself, but to run 30 secs or so faster per mile than my marathon goal pace. Sine that is 7:50-8:00(marathon goal pace) I wanted to pull between 7:20 and 7:30 a mile. Which are basically my tempo workouts.
Mission Accomplished. I ran a 1:36.30 for an average pace of 7:21.6686! I felt really good the whole way. Never felt exhausted, and never really slowed down. My slowest mile the whole race was a 7:30.
I've heard of runners talking about "running down hill" but never really experienced it. Well, I did yesterday. The last three or four miles I was passed by one guy, and he was flying, but I digress. I must have passed over ten people those last 3 miles. This is after about 5 miles of running pretty much alone, not passing anyone, or getting passed. I really felt like I was "running down hill". Those guys I was passing looked so tired. I felt fine.
I still feel good. It's Monday morning, and I am barely stiff. My thigh that was hurting was a little tight during the race, but it never acted up at all, never slowed me down, in fact, I only really noticed it on uphills and downhills.
Things are looking great for Twin Cities!

Great job Mark!! You're peaking perfectly for TCM. I was thinking about you yesterday as I ran a 25km race in over 80F degree temps in Mpls. Was it a scorcher there?
Nice racing
