When would you "let go with the flow" while racing?
Nevah - no way, no how, no chance: that's GROSS!

Only if it would make the difference between a BQ and a non-BQ.

If it meant a PR, sure, I'd wet myself.

If I had on clothes where you couldn't tell, why not?

What a silly question: I pee on myself during training; why not while racing?

Well, I'm sure most of you slow, inexperienced runners don't know this, but us elites pee while running all the time. It's something we've mastered, like drinking out of those ridiculous paper cups while maintaining our blistering pace, and looking incredibly refreshed while crossing the finishing line.

Luckily for me, I never have to pee while running, and since many of my long runs go close to 4 hours, I have to have something to brag about. (my mother would be so proud)

As my high school coach used to say to anyone at the starting line complaining about having to pee.. "You're gonna need whatever you got in this race, so hold it".

I was wonderin' the same thing when I read tburt's Ironman report last month...

I pissed 6 times while riding because i knew i had to make up time and i would only have minutes to spare at the end of the night....

I made it to transition in 7 hours 23 minutes and 44 seconds. Those last few miles were tough. I got off my bike and headed into the changing rooms. There were only a few people there so i sat down next to a guy and immediately was overwhelmed with the stench of piss coming off my shoes. Holy amonia batman. I quickly took them and my socks off and put them in my bag and closed it tight.

Aparently it's common in Ironman tri's, no??

Not common for me at the IM. I proudly used the porta johns more than once. I couldn't imagine how badly my shoes and shorts would smell if I peed on myself during the bike. And being the elite cyclist that I am I was so far ahead of the others in the race I didn't lose any time. Wink

my hubby has complained about triathletes taking dumps in the water before the horn goes off. I was at one triathlon where it was pretty apparent that the winner did more than pee in his itty bitty suit and he was standing there talking to reporters......ah yuck!

hubby says he pees on his long bike rides----I knew there was reason his workout clothes needed two cycles

I don't think I could pee on a bike. Well, I might make an attempt at standing up and peeing onto the side of the road (great mental image, no?) but I wouldn't just go... that's gotta be torture for the finish on the bike.

Let me speak on behalf of recumbent bicycles everywhere.. peeing while 'bent cycling would not be a good idea. (simple physics tells me the direction of pee flow would not be optimal) Shocked
