Any one else been reading the Marathon Essays by Hank Brown over at CR? Just curious what you think. Especially if you have run a marathon. Seeing how I am training for my first. I have been tuning in to these. The hard part is not gettng psyched out.

Yes, I read parts of it.
My experience was a bit different. I never doubted my ability to do it. I didn't look at the training as torture. It was a very rewarding experience for me. I enjoyed the journey almost as much as the destination.

Great answer, Monk. What's the point in even wanting to run a marathon if you don't look forward to each and every run?

Man says he isn't going to train for a marathon
Man trains for marathon
Man complains the whole time
Man runs marathon and finishes 30 minutes behind goal
Man is happy to have run the marathon

One of the best experiences in my life. Although I may never do another one, I am in elite the group the proudly has finished one.

Not the same, but there is also a book called "First Marathons" that is interesting reading. I read it AFTER I ran mine, rather than before, though.

Despite the whining I liked the paragraph in the last one where he compared his journey in the last mile with his lady to their life together. Nice metaphor.

enjoying the journey, yes...but anybody training for a marathon who says they look forward to every run is either a liar or isn't training hard enough...
