1. What is the remedy for when you get a charley horse?
2. Would you like to know the derivation for the term "charley horse?" It's disputed but here's what I've found: First used in the 1880s among baseball players, the term was soon extended to more general use. Among the more likely theories proposed is that it alludes to the name of either a horse or an afflicted ball player who limped like one of the elderly draft horses formerly employed to drag the infield.

1. Beyotch and moan and limp around. Rubbing it sometimes makes it worse. Sometimes I use "the stick" on it.
2. That is cool!!!

1)Massage - one of the little wooden ball thingies with oil works fine...
I don't know the anwer to #2, sorry.
Do you know how to fix a right side ankle/calf muscle cramp from snorkeling? The little wooden masage is not working...
More severe muscle cramps may indicate a lack of potasium and salts from dehydration. Orange, bananas, and salt may help ( a great excuse to eat a big fat alt pretzel, in my book).

I flex my foot and massage my calf until it goes away.

I have no clue but I know flopping around the bed at 2am moaning and groaning and saying "Babe rub my leg, rub my leg"........never ever helps. I rarely get them but DH does all the time. At 2am even.

My remedy was to spring up out of my chair and hop around Rolling Rock's kitchen on one foot b!tching about the cramp in my leg.

Can't help on the etomology of the term but...
To keep charlie horses from appearing I usually drink up a liter of "Tonic Water" after my running/exercise sessions. The quinine in the tonic water helps to avoid/minimize any cramps.
Tonic water is available in diet or regular and I have seen regular tonic with lime flavors.
If I get one I find I have to contort myself into unusual positions so the muscle can relax. Massage and rubbing do nothing for me.

This is my usual technique, although I've never been in RR's kitchen.

I used to get them when I took ballet. I'd wake up in the middle of the night and my calf would be in a ball. I try to go against it, in this case, pull my foot up. But prevention is better and eating potassium and sodium prevents it pretty well I think.

Oh, I just remembered this. When I was a kid my Mom used to get cramps in her leg. She would go to the freezer and get a 1lb. block of butter out and stand on it. No kidding!
