has anyone heard about this canucklehead?
if not - google it.
the guy has started out with a red paper clip, and has traded it all the way up to a van (i'm not sure where he is currently at).
check it out. things like this are great.

I read that he did indeed get a year's rent, but he wanted an actual house.
It's cool yet weird what we Westerners have time in our lives for.

but that is the ultimate example of the Westerner ambition.
strike out on your own and make it big.
i'd say he did alright.

Yeah, but back in the day people worked hard for that house, not just trading.
It is an interesting concept. I wonder what other cultures would think of it.

worked hard?
that's bartering - some people figure things out first, strike it rich, all that.
it doesn't really matter how you got from A to B, just that they got there.

Actually, in my book it does matter how people get from point A to B.

well as long as it was done ethically...
a plan to go from a paperclip to a house? that's not any different then deciding to start a farm, and selling enough cows (or whatever) to provide for a family. sure it's more work, but i bet the farmer would have gone with the 'paperclip' idea if he had the chance.
same reason people went panning/digging for gold. it's not that people don't want to work hard, it's just that sometimes they have ideas that are different.
for example, i work hard at my job, and boy wouldn't i like to have a years rent . i can only commend him for making that happen.

But usually it's just that we don't want to work hard. Trust me, I know.

just because you have an idea that's easier to do, doesn't me you aren't interested in working hard.
i enjoy working hard - but if there was an easier option, shouldn't i take it? (all things being equal)
