does anyone know about it, hyper or hypo?

i went to the dr today for a check up and she asked me if i was aware that my thyroid is "huge". while i realize that it is not life threatning, she gave me a referal for an ultrasound and took blood to run a assay for my TSH levels.

Shocked i know that in the whole scope of things that this isnt a huge deal and it could explain some of the 'minor' health issues ive had for a while. but its still a little unnerving, the dr made it sound like i need to get this taken care of pronto...

so does anyone know about anything about thyroidism or know of any places on the web i can check out? i did a quickie search earlier and got mediocre results that im not sure are legit...

A teacher of mine in high school had a thyroid problem. She had to take some kind of hormonal supplement but other than that it didn't affect her at all.

My sister has hypo, which means that her thyroid produces too little hormones. She feels sluggish and fatigued is she does not take medicine (synthroid). She is also prone to depression, anxiety attacks, and weight gain.

A friend has hyperthyroidism and she also is prone to anxiety attacks and depression, but instead of feeling sluggish and fatigued, her behavior is often manic (restless, nervous, heart palpitations). Her thyroid is enlarged and you can notice it. I don't think she is on medication, though she should because she is, emotionally, all over the place.

Their conditions do occasionally impact their daily lives, especially in social situations. For more information, visit http://www.thyroid.org/index.php3?M_Session=3c35337f2423fce534c026ae90f410ac

Is there a lack of iodine in your diet? Iodine-deficiency is one of the causes of hyperthyroidism (I assume you have goiter?) Perhaps you should increase the amount of iodine-rich foods in your diet such as seafood (fish for example).
