Whenever I hear of "the worst" incident, I can't help but think of this:
| Quote: |
Boston Bruins forward Stan Jonathan was hit in the face by an object thrown by a fan, and right wing Terry O'Reilly was harassed by a stick-wielding fan at the end of a 4-3 victory at the New York Rangers. Several Boston players, including O'Reilly and Mike Milbury, went into the stands to fight with spectators. Milbury removed a shoe from a fan and beat him with it. |
Other fan/player confrontations...

Everything on that list was bad, save the racetrack accidents. People should know there are risks when they go to sporting events, no matter what sport. Ask the family of the girl who got hit, and subsequently died, by a puck that went into the stands (unintentionally) at a Columbus Blue Jackets game a year or two ago.

I might add Ty Cobb going into the stands to beat on a man with no hands who happened to suggest that Cobb might be part black.

Funny, I was seven when that happened. I remember nothing of it. My parents must have done a good job of turning off the TV? <shrug> or I blocked it. I'm guessing the turn-off, knowing them as I do.

I was four when it happened, I remembered my parents talking about it.
Sad indeed.

Can't help but think of the Hillsborough disaster - 96 football (soccer) fans died in the stadium due to utter bumbling and mis-management.
Also the ice-skater (Nancy Kerrigan) being attacked.
The recent racism in Madrid.
I think there are ugly moments in all sports. Although some are uglier than others.
