Posted: 04/13/06 - 00:11 Post subject: the commute and you...
as noted in previous posts - i started riding my bike to work (8k) everyday.
i love it.
i wouldn't mind a little extra bit of distance after realizing it wasn't exactly the hardest ride ever. but it's a great way to squeeze in exercise.
i figure i'm saving $20 a week on the drive to/from work alone.
i have no idea what i'm going to do in the winter (snow shoes? ) but i don't even want to get in my car anymore.
anyhoo - what are you doing to commute?
do you want to take a bike? run? walk?
and what's holding you back if you aren't? kids? time? local gangs?
anyway... just wondered where everyone was at on that.
happiness is working a job you like, and riding your bike there.

I thought about commuting via bike on this last trip. Then I remembered I a)don't have a bike because it was stolen and b)wouldn't be able to bike from Austin to Baltimore in less than 4 hours.

But what a story it would have been, no?
My commute to the computer room in the a.m. is arduous enough to try to actually fit a bike in the hallway, too.
Truthfully? My last job was to traffic-laden to even consider a bike commute. (too much highway)

I usually get a ride from my mom to work. Sometimes I take a bus or walk since it's so near home.

My commute is 25 miles each way over two lane curvy hilly country roads. It would probaly take me two hours to bike it if I didn't get hit by the locals who are always left of center.

I live 12 miles from work. I've considered riding my bike but my dear husband is against it. Also I don't know where I'd put my lunchbox. How do you people keep from stinking all day?

5 mile drive from home to the commuter train. 21-23 miles to the Loop (one nice thing here is I could take any one of three different lines - Chicago & NW, Milwaukee Road, or North Central - I think it's got a connection to Canadian National). Five minute walk to work.
Once in a great while (almost always on a Saturday) I'll drive to work.

My job is only 5 miles away, and I would love to be able to bike it, but here in the Chicago suburbs I'd be taking my life in my hands twice a day to do it.
My next job it will be a consideration.

Don't you and your husband work at the same office?

I live half a mile from my gym. I always drive in the winter cuz I'm a puss. I do bike or run to n from when I can but sometimes I need my laptop at work and running down the middle of the street at 4 or 5 am carrying a laptop may land me in jail.
