Posted: 10/01/05 - 11:14 Post subject: tell me about your digital camera
We're going shopping for a digital camera this morning (finally). Do you love yours? Hate it? What do you have? We want at least a 4.0 megapixel camera, not fussy on brands although our printer is an HP Photosmart.
Is the extra money for 5 megapixels worth it for snapshots? Or only if you were blowing them up?
Opinions, please. We leave in four hours!

i just got a cannon power shot A510. its only 3 mega pixels and was about $200 but i love it. its super easy to use, has a zillion different shooting modes, a black and white mode, and a sepia (brown tint) mode.
its super easy to hook up to my computer and down load pictures. it came with all of the software that i needed. it came with a memory card that was only 15 something or other, so i bought a 156 (i think) card to use instead.
i originally got a nikon 4 mega pixel, but it was a pain to work and was defective. when i was exchanging it the guy said that for day to day stuff 3 megapixels was plenty. as long as i wasnt blowing pics up to poster size or taking professional photos, i didnt need any more megapixels. oh and he said that in his opinion, cannon was the best brand out there for ameture stuff.
hope this was helpful and happy shopping!

We just purchased a Kodak C340, 5 megapixels. We've only had it a couple of weeks, but we think it works fine. I'll tell you in a week. But we had a 3 megapixel camera (Kodak CX6330) and it was okay. Nothing special, but for general picture taking it was fine.
I'm sure we'll see a difference in clarity of some pictures and the new one is a nicer camera.
If you're going to do 4 megapixels, are you upgrading from a 3? If so, you might want to go to a 5 just so that there is a bigger upgrade (a 3 to a 4 doesn't seem worth it to me).

Konica Minolta Dimage.
This one is similar: http://konicaminolta.com/products/consumer/digital_camera/dimage/dimage-z5/index.html
You can get this one for a fairly competitive price-especially if you are looking in the 5+ mp range. What sets this one apart is the anti-shake which I REALLY recommend.
Cool thing, too, is if you decide to go further into photography, there are bigger lenses you can add and filters and flashes.
It is the BOMBDIGGITY!!! It takes astounding pictures! Even a craptastic no talent photog like me can come up with some hellacool pics.

We have the Kodak Easyshare CX7300. 3.2 megapixels.
It was around a hundred (US) bucks. Very easy to use, transferring is a breeze.
I upgraded to a 256MB expansion card, which gives me about 1100 pictures.
One of the cool things is that it has a video (no sound) feature.
For what I use it for, this was a great camera. Great pictures, for a great price

We got a Canon PowerShot Elph. It's a cool little camera! Takes great pictures and is no bigger than my cell phone. We're going to take it along on our bike ride today.

Well, with any luck, we will be able to find the peripherals/battery for this Canon ELPH2 that we have, after three months of searching for the owner, absconded from the lost and found the the restaurant. Anyone have any ideas? I'm taking it to our local camera shop tomorrow.
We had, and loved, a Pentax Optio550, that was stolen from us in Ft Lauderdale either a cabbie or one of his passengers. We left in it in the cab, realized it 30 seconds later, and pounded on the cab windows to try to get him to stop with no luck. That sucked, and repeated calls to the cab company got us nowhere.
bastage.
We don't have it in the budget to replace that model. What sucks even more is that we had filled the card up with all sorts of photos of our friends Mark and Claudia and Alexandria (new baby) and Deena and Sam. We had promised to send them copies of the photos, but some asshat crook probably pawned the thing and deleted the pics.
So, anyone have any advice on the Canon ELPH 2?

I would think you could buy replacement stuff for it at any store that sells the camera. Battery packs have a finite life, they need replacing, and people must lose their cords and stuff all the time.
Kristin, I wanted to buy the Pentax Optio, for the same money you got 5 mega pixels instead of 4 and the screen was 1/2" bigger. But the salesperson told us the same thing Froggie mentioned; Canon has the best picture quality in the business.
