Have you done it? Did it work out okay? How's the whole bidding thing work? Do you usually get the item you bid on? Have you gotten ripped off? What if you get something that turns out to be crap??
I was just on there looking for some crib bedding and just know nothing about it or anything, and I'm curious about it all. I guess you can say I'm an ebay virgin.
So give me your thoughts, opinions, advice please! Thanks!

we bought our digitial camera throught them. Just set a price you want to pay and it bids up to the price. The only thing is you have to make sure you pay quickly and watch what you are buying carefully.
There is a great deal of trust from both sides but for the most part it works very well.

I've done alot of shopping on E-bay. I've only had one bad purchase, 2 t-shirts with a really bad iron-ons (it peeled off right away). Other than that, I've gotten some really great things for much less money. My best advice, know exactly how much you want to spend on something and if you can get it elsewhere cheaper. I've seen a bunch of auctions go up way past what it can be bought for elsewhere.

I've had nothing but good experiences with ebay. I've bought and sold LOTS of things, cds, concert tickets, football tickets, movies, school books, etc etc etc.
The bidding is easy, say you are bidding on a book that is starting at $.99. Say you aren't willing to pay more than $10 plus shipping. You enter $10, ebay bids for you $.99, then as other people bid, it automatically outbids them until it reaches your max (if it does). Some things never get multiple bids. Some things get into a bidding war that gets too high, but since you have your max set, you aren't committed to anything. You can go in and bid higher. My rule of thumb is lower than I can get it elsewhere, so I've usually researched what I'm buying/selling.
Be sure to check shipping costs, some people charge more than their item is worth, others charge actual and have you put your zip code in.
Look at the feedback of a seller if you aren't sure.
Paypal is a really easy/safe way to pay.
Ebay also has 'help' areas too that explain better than I have I'm sure and many safeguards against the scams that could be out there. I haven't had any problems. Go for it.

and DON'T GO OVER IT!
That's rule #1. Everything else is small stuff.

Have you done it? Many, many times. I bought bicycles, running shoes, clothing, books, dvds and even a boat. I have even bid on cars but not won the bid on one ever.
Did it work out okay? Everytime, about 30 purchases the last couple years. How's the whole bidding thing work? Cheryl sez it well.
Do you usually get the item you bid on? Actually, not too often. I'm cheap, so I don't bid real high. But when I do win, believe you me, I've gotten a deal.Have you gotten ripped off? Nope.
What if you get something that turns out to be crap?? You're sunk. There is some things you can do. You can give that seller 'negative feedback' which is a big black spot on someone's profile. Or you can use the Paypal or Ebay dispute resolution steps. I think Paypal has two 'free' disputes per year, so if you really get zinged, you can get your money back through Paypal and send the crap back. I try to only bid on Paypal auctions. It's a good guarantee. There's a dollar limit in there somewhere too, you might want to check. But for crib linens, I wouldn't worry. |

Ebay rocks!
Try using the AuctionSniper service. It helps you win items "at the last second" without lots of competition.

I've had terrific luck so far on ebay. I think the keys are to know what you are buying (research), and, as has been said, set a top price that you will pay and stick to it. Also, don't hestitate to ask the seller about the item. If they really want to sell it, they should be willing to answer you in detail. If you get a lot of hubbub from them, don't bid.
I got my treadmill, 5 years old and completely refurbished retailed new for $6K, for $300. When I went to pick it up, I was astounded to find out just how good of a deal I got.
I'm in the middle of a transaction right now. I bought a Soloflex, a pretty old one by the description, for $41. I'm picking it up tonight, we'll see just what kind of deal it really was. This is it. At 40 bucks, I'm not overly concerned about though
Happy bidding!

my only ebay experience sucks.
a few years ago, i got roped into buying some fancy wheels for my car. well i won the aucton and they were shipped. when they arrived, they were wheels from a honda, spray painted and stickered. then the guy suddenly disapeared. i was out $500.
the bf, however, has had mostly good luck. he buys all kinds of bike and car stuff on there ALL the freaking time.
