Suggestions?
I mentioned it to one of them last night and he thought it sounded like a great idea. |
(seriously) Bocce ball (lawn bowling) is a great game for that type of party.
after all if you're gonna party in teh sac, play with balls!

i'm laughing like a 10 year old!
we rent a bouncer for our cul-de-bleep party every summer, for the kids, but there are way more than 5 families involved.
everyone brings a type of dish to share and maybe someone collects money for one person to buy hot dogs and hamburgers, and paper stuff for everyone.
someone drags out their grill/grills
it's BYOB too, we bring our own drinks, diet soda and beer which usually gets us thru the night. there are lots of coolers sitting around.
someone, in recent years, has decided to drag out and hook up their huge stereo system. let there be music.
it's a rather big deal here....

You could get someone to re-record "Ain't nuthin' like a house party" to "Ain't nuthin like a sac party" and use it as your theme song. Then you could play the following revised games:
Sac races
Hacky sac
Pin the tail on the sac
I'm sure there are others - be creative!

Hello! That's the GA state sport!!!
I think you're awesome too PH!
I love parties! and I've thought about doing the exact same thing you are doing. Are YOU having the party for everybody, or is it a cul-de-sac party? If the latter, talk to the other families about how they think it should be done. Assign a task to each family - the family with the mega grill is in charge of cooking (charcoal, the cooking part), somebody else can provide the meat/buns/fixins (or split this betw 2 families), somebody else for the sides (chips, beans, salads), somebody else can provide the beverages (including alcohol, could split this too).
Will the families on the regular street part get jealous? Oh, who cares!

That is cracking me up! It could be a fun way to do invitations! I would also stress the alcohol and foreworks. It's not a party until someone says "HEY! Y'all watch this!"
Seriously, grilling out, with simple things like steaks, burgers, checken breasts hot dogs, or if you're really adventurous and good with the smoker, a few pork shoulders or Boston Butts for BBQ and then have someone bring buns, someone else bring coleslaw, chips, salad, fruit, brownies, what have you. It's pretty easy to smoke a pork shoulder (s) overnight and then do hot dogs/hamburgers/veggie burgers for people who don't like NC BBQ (but who doesn't like that?)
Have each family be responsible for something, including set-up of tables, music, what have you. (And the jello-shots and fireworks. We combine alcohol and fireworks all the time and no one has lost a digit or a limb yet! JK, JK.)
OK, we do live in The Keys, and there are no enforced rules so that might not be acceptable where you are. But the rest of the ideas are great if I say so myself. Have fun! Block parties are always a blast.
Just send out invites with a list for people to select what to bring and then add a space for phone numbers to do the coordination. Party planning is fun!
