I'm still not giving up my bagals with poppy seeds no matter what the results are.

Cocaine wouldn't be a CII Drug (classes are 1-5) if it wasn't so abused.
Heroin, in the US, is a CI Drug-no medicinal use for it.
Yes, you have to pay the price for all the meth heads in the country. Sudafed will be moving to a prescription sooner or later.
The drug called "ephedrine" in the state of Ohio is already a CIV drug, which is a derivative of Sudafed. Ohio almost made Sudafed a controlled drug about 10 years ago, but backed off the decision. (States can make their own, stricter laws about certain drugs.)
I would rather dole out the Sudafed one by one than have the meth heads scooping up all the cold medicine boxes on the shelves out front. |
Well, it makes me feel better to hear you say that. I really was feeling like this pharmacist's biggist PITA for my 24 count box, holding up the who knows what prescriptions behind me. And I certainly don't want to support meth habits, it just seems like much ado for questionable effectiveness (I'm thinking like airport security). Maybe its very effective, I have no idea. Anyway, glad it doesn't annoy you, hopefully thats a common thought as I'm a regular purchaser through the spring months.
On another note, I can't wait for my pharmacology class next semester...this stuff fascinates me.

Those laws have only been in effect for a few months here, and they are already saying that its working. I hope it is but I'm a little skeptical at the same time. How many boxes of that crap do you need to make it? I don't know but It's probably a lot. People around here are more apt to steal what they need from a farmer rather than go to wal-mart and PAY for Sudafed. It just seems like taking Sudafed away wouldn't make a very big impact. But what do I know?

That's probably what they will do now, but they would go from store to store and buy up as much of the stuff as they could. They must be making a helluva lot on the stuff, because Sudafed aint cheap.

Glad I clicked through on the snopes thing...I knew that was true..somewhere, maybe in Ohio, a defendant used the "poppy seed" defense. The judge, then decided to try the poppy seed and urine test and found the same results. Found the person not guilty and admonished to stop eating poppy seed bagels.

That has been what has happened in some drugstores, people just buying up complete supplies, wiping out every drugstore in town. Or just shoplifting it.
Items to Make Meth:
Q. What ingredients are used to make meth?
A. Over-the-counter cold and asthma medications containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine, red phosphorous, hydrochloric acid, drain cleaner, battery acid, lye, lantern fuel, and antifreeze are among the ingredients most commonly used. For more information click here.
Most of these you wouldn't need to steal from a farmer, just a pharmacy, auto parts store, hardware store.

and people wonder why meth users/makers/distributers deserve such a stiff penalty.

What do common household chemicals have to do with the degree of penalty?
