Posted: 09/22/04 - 10:09 Post subject: something dropped on my head (reflection)
So I'm in my closet (favorite place to play) and I'm grabbing my shoebox off the top shelf that I can barely reach with my tiptoes and a race number floats down to my head. I read it and it's my number from my first half marathon down in Satillo, MX. June 1998. I flip the number over as I sometimes write my times down. Sure enough it's there, 1:38. I mutter to myself "Sue, you've come a long way".
But now as I reflect, I can understand why members of my running club gave me weird looks when I said I was training to run a 3:10 marathon. I was planning to double my distance and take off 6 minutes. Sometimes ignorance can be good, because knowing what I know now--I'd say that I was a dumba$$. Feb 1999: 3:09:34. Ignorance is not always bliss, sometimes it's a rush.

I like your calculator. It works for me.
You poor lost soul, running a 1:38 in your first half. You must be crushed with that time.

What made you choose Satillo for your first half?

the running store that I ran with on Thursdays for tempo run +beer sponsored a bus trip. It sounded like fun--and the bus ride down really was (except for being stopped at the border forever---we had alot of non US citizens aboard)

I was a mid-distance runner 400/800 62/63 pr of 60.1 for 400
2:30s for 800 with pr of 2:27 (first time I ran it as frosh...wasn't allowed to run again 'til jr year because the ass't coach dated the sr. girl) gained 20 pounds from fr to jr year. I ran the 2 mile a few times my fr/soph year as a pace bunny for sr. girl trying to break conference record. I was to run 2 laps and drop out....I would keep going and piss off the coach and finish around 13 minutes.
