some good news finally about Abby

We saw her pulmonologist today. In three weeks, Abby will have her trachestomy pulled out because she has reached the point where the potential for harm is greater than the good it is doing.
So what will happen is a doctor will take a scope and look down her trachea to see how it looks. If it is normal she will be decanulated and trach free. She will likely be in the hospital for about 2-3 days to monitor then come home.
After that it would be the first time in her 33.5 months of life that she has not needed any artificial means of support to breathe.
It has been quite a road but she will still be carefully monitored for the rest of her life but this is one obstacle we can put behind her.
All I have to say is she has many obstacles ahead of her and this is only the first one behind her. But it is a step forward which is always the right way to go.
She will never function as a normal child but she wil live a more normal life.
