Posted: 11/30/04 - 11:30 Post subject: some computer help: UPDATE
my CD drive won't read any disc, but when I run the troubleshooting, it tells me that everything is fine. I've tried updating the drivers, and even tried a rollback. Nothing. I've got some software I want to install.
I should add that I just ordered a CD burner. can I use that to install the software and view pictures that I have on disc?
THE CD BURNER ARRIVED!!!. but now the cd drive doesn't even open or close, and it has a software cd stuck inside. I need to get the disc out of there somehow. and I need to get a cd drive now.

Did you just add the CD burner to the tower? I had a problem once when I added a CD burner to a computer that already had a CD drive. It had to do with the settings on the drive itself. There should be pins for "master" and "slave" devices on it. Make sure those are set up correctly, especially if one drive is working and the other isn't. They can't both be set up as "master" (I think).

no, the cd burner hasn't arrived yet, although I do recall something about those pins from the last time I did that (on a computer that I left behind for my kids).
I'm thinking that I should have added a CD drive to my order

There should be a little hole in the front of the CD player. Use an unfolded paper clip and push it in the little hole for the manual tray release.
