Howdy all.
I am having a bit of trouble selecting a good shoe for my goofy feet. I suffer from extremely weak ankles and can twist my ankle on a pebble the size of chiclket. No joke. A few years back I was running stairs when I stepped on a little rock. Just a little thing, mind you. My ankle twisted so far and fast I was on the ground seeing stars (just like in the old Sat. morning cartoons). A couple of X-rays later showed the tendon pulled off the ankle bone, taking a bit of bone with it. That one took a while to heal.
In my daily life, I gravitate toward shoes that are wide and stable. I have a pair of Birkenstock Alton (clog type) that I wear a lot. The whole "Birkenstock footbed cradle your foot' thing really appeals to me and provides a solid base.
What I would like to have is a running shoe with a wide, stable heel with plenty of material on the outside heel. The soles of most of my shoes are worn primarily on the outside edge. I run in Asics. I have a pair of 2060s now, but it seems like they are built up on the inside heel instead of the outside heel where I really need the help.
Anyone else suffer from weak ankles? Any suggestions for shoe types are very appreciated.
Thanks!

I just started using the New Balance 1023 because I stretched out the gel nimbus VI's I had. The NB seem to be a good shoe for people with wide feet. You might also want to look at Pearl Izumi's!

Just to give you and idea of how weak my ankles are..
I use asics gt-2090's love the way they feel. They provide mild arch support... The asics gel pricier versions are pretty good too..

I have used Asics 20xx series shoes, and have had a lot of luck with them
Ideally, if possible, you may want to go to your local running store and try a bunch on, and get one of their recommendations
