Sex and the City season 6 goes on sale today! Dancing Banana Dancing Banana Um, look again, that is season six, part one um, wha? Mad First they sell the worst and shortest season, 5, at full price, then they are going to milk our pocketbooks by mutilating this last season and selling it in pieces? Confused I'm cranky.

I felt a bit like this after I bought LOTR 1, then found out that they were putting out the collector's set, with the deleted scenes added in. I mean, they should have told me. Me personally. LOL. Now I wait to buy the dvd. We rent it first, but then in Nov or whenever they release it, we buy the big set. I just don't have the desire to spent $20 on the movie, then turn around and spend another $35 or whatever on the same but better movie.

They do seem to make a lot of money on these things. Us buying their product only encourages them though.

It make sense, though. Season Six was split into two when it aired on HBO with a seperation of several months between part 1 and part 2.

Brie, hate to say it, but the two editions of LOTR were announced at the same time.

Well, you'll be happy to know I'm boycotting buying seasons 5 and 6.
for now.

So was season five and they didn't split it (although how could they, it was already so short) dunno Seasons 3 and 4 each had 20something episodes, it clearly isn't too hard to fit them all onto one dvd...I guess I don't understand the whole effect of splitting them (besides profit to HBO) when we don't have anymore new episodes coming out. Just release them all and be done. I'm still cranky.

Maybe they're working on special features for the second part. Commentary tracks and such. dunno

And maybe they want to milk you out of your money like the American Pie DVDs.

So goes the fleecing of the American public. DVDs are dirt cheap to produce and yet we'll pay a premium for them over VHS tapes.

We get them right away, though, and priced to own. VHS is released for rental at the same time as a DVD is released for sale. If you purchased a VHS tape at that same time, you would typically have to pay $90, or what a rental store pays to purchase the tape.

Plus, with the bonus features on the DVD (which, along with being widescreen, is a nice selling point), you can be getting a deal with multiple commentary tracks and original bonus documentaries. Something like the Black Hawk Down: Director's Edition (which i own, but haven't watched) is a great example of this. 3 disc set, 4 commentary tracks (one with the author of the book, another with the actual US Rangers the book was about), and a wealth of documentary features. All of this had to be produced and edited and paid for without a theatrical release.

It's the DVDs w/o special features that kill me, in light of the capacity to do so much more than VHS.
