so im pretty sure i already know the answer to this question but im gonna ask anyway....

so i really like my shoes, nike air pegasus/climax or something (you know the all terrain one...) anyway, i like them alot. but after a long-ish run, like todays, my toes are sore. just the tips of them and only when i purposly rub/push them on the floor. and the one time that i ran on a very hilly trail, i got the ever so slight beginings of a dreaded black toenail.

so i might need my shoes to be at least a half size, possibly a whole size larger right? cry

see heres the problem, my heels slip enough as it is in the current size, even with as tight as i tie my shoes and lacing them all the way up...

i really hate my socks buching up around my toes or heels and i dont want to wear any thicker socks than i am now...

any one have any suggestions on what to do?

i really dont want new shoes, the nikes are far from worn out, and i cant afford new shoes till at least the end of aug/start of sept... and i really dont want new shoes... though im afraid my feet do... cry help? sniff

Avoid those hills until you can get larger shoes maybe one solution.

As for the heel, you can buy heel inserts at a drug store that may secure your heel a bit. The only think I would worry about is getting one with any or too much lift as it would throw your mechanics off.

I have this problem. I'm a toe runner. I've tried 1/2 size bigger and a full size bigger. I purchased Sauconies because the toe box is big, but, as you state, the heals slip, so my right ankle twists. The salesman at my running store gave me heal inserts for my Sauconies and showed me a way to lace them, and this would be hard to describe w/o becoming too confusing, that helped a lot. My ankle started hurting again, but I didn't buy new ones until after 400 miles... Went to the the running store, told the salesman about my ankle. This time I was fitted in Adidas Cushion. Fine on the ankle. No trouble, but the toe box isn't as roomy as Sauconies. Horrible blisters on my toes. After these wore down, I went back to my Sauconies...and I'm having ankle trouble again.

To make a long story even longer, I've decided when I have enough money to alternate. Have both the Adidas and Saucony Grid Shadows (as long as they're stocked. they're closing this model out. Evil or Very Mad ). Maybe this will help my feet.

Good luck to you. Finding shoes that fit well is hard.

Maybe I could help with a suggestion or two.

Theoretically, your running shoes should be about 1/2 inch longer than your longest toe. Or about the length of your thumbnail.


When you say "just the tips of them", do you mean the end of your toes? If so, it's quite possible that your 'scrunching' your toes in your shoes. Check this out during your next run and see. If you really doing that, work on relaxing your feet and toes during your runs.

Heel slippage. You can do a lacing 'thingie' to help keep your heel from slipping in your shoe.

Nike generally makes a second eyelet up near the ankle part of the shoe. Take your lace from the first eyelet and put it through that second eyelet on the same side, making a loop. Then cross the laces over as you would naturally when tying them, and put the lace through that loop. When you tighten the laces, having that loop should help make the shoe more snug against your heel.

If this doesn't make sense, PM me and I'll send you a photo of a shoe laced up like this.

flarunner, the lacing thing sounds like it makes sense, but ill have to get some longer laces first...

i feel like i have plenty of room for my toes so maybe i am doing the scrunching up thing with them... well see...

I was also going to suggest the shoestring trick. When I bought my last pair of running shoes, one of the pair I tried on slipped on the heel. The clerk showed me a trick with the laces that kept the shoe tighter on the heel. Sorry, I can't remember the technique because I didn't buy thoses shoes. But I do remember that the trick made the heels tighter.

Anyway you could ask your local running store clerk for the technique?

I worked in a specialty running store for 5 years and you wouldn't believe the number of people who had blisters on the end of their toes! All from flexing (scrunching) their feet!

You wouldn't believe some of the other things I've seen concerning feet, but that's a whole 'nother story... Wink
