Posted: 02/28/06 - 18:19 Post subject: running to lose weight, suggestions please.
i actually posted this on another running site also but im just trying to make sure im doing the right things here. also im eating a lot better, no more soda, no more fast food and eating 5-6 smaller meals a day.
hello everyone not sure if you remember but i have posted a few times, well anyways im running again and losing weight. i have run before in the army (got out about a year ago) well back then i was 180, 3 weeks ago i was 245 and right now im 225. i have been running about 2-2.5 miles every AM and eating right. well today i decided i wanted to do a long run so i though i would step it out a bit and push myself well (i know im slow as heck now but once im back around 180 it will be quicker) today i ran 4.6 miles took me 51 min to do it and i has 3 times of about 2min fast walking in there, well on the last time i was walking quick and my right knee made a weird crack, it actually felt good but kinda stiffened up a bit so i though screw it im not going any more so i stopped and streched. now my question is do you think im over doing it? is it bad to run 7 days a week? also does it hurt to have a few short quick walks in between the run?
BTW yes i have good running shoes just incase that was going to be a questoin. tomarrow im playing to run about 3 miles in the AM and i just want to make sure im not over doing this but for some reason days i run i just feel so good and days i don't i feel like crap.
thanks,
one more thing, any good food to eat that i guess you could say lubes up your joints? anything like that?
thanks again
i also posted this as another topic but i will just leave it as one topic here
just wondering how long everyone here runs for weight loss? i really don't know any sure facts but i do know in baisc i ate healthy and ran for an hour in the mourning, so im trying to do that again but im curious on what most people do. im sure the longer the better though right?
w/o hurting yourself that is
thanks
now someone came back with you only burn 100 calories per mile and its 3500 caliories to burn one lbs of fat. so i came back with this reply.
well then this makes no sence to me because when i was in the army i drank a lot of beer every night and ate like crap, but was running everyday and i was in great shape, and then when i hurt my back couldn't run for a month but was still drinking about eat and i gained a lot of wieght then as soon as i came off profile and was running again the weight flew off. so how did this happen if it wasn't for the running?
ok, thats it, thank you for reading all of this and beering with me if you did because this may seem like a dumb post but im just wanting to make sure im doing the right thing here. my plan is to basically run for 60min a day every day other then one, mabye 2 days a week off.
thanks again

I have lost 40 pounds since the new year by doing 1 to 1.5 hrs of good cadio a day, 6 days a week. Wether it be running, cycling, stairmaster, eliptical or a combination of one or more. I made sure my heart rate was at least 160 bpm, which for my age, 31 is appropriate. I went from 250 to 210, which was my weight in the Army, 4 years ago, and have 20 more to go. I will see you all in the NYC marathon in November. Remember, push yourself...
