It was only about a 1-2km walk, but just starting back, she had a pain in the side. A few more steps and it got worse. I was able to get her to a bus stop with a bench, then I ran as fast as I could back home to get the car.
When I got back, she was on a bus to Buffalo. |

Two years ago on July 4th I was supposed to be at the Library at noon to help serve water and lemonade. Steve was dropping me off after church, but the streets were all blocked off due to the parade. So I got out of the car about three blocks away and ran the rest of the way. In a dress and sandals.

Not really "practical" as much as necessity, but here's a good one...
We often go to Stone Mountain Park, which is not far from where we live. The mountain hike is 1 1/4 miles and fairly easy to climb for the most part, but the last part is a bit steep. A few years ago, we went to hike the mountain. I ended up carrying my younger son on my shoulders for the last half of the hike up.
Naturally, when we got to the top, the kids and mom want to ride the cable car down the other side.
In order to get our vehicle, one of us (translation: "dad") would have to walk back down the mountain to get it and drive it around to the cable car landing.
As I'm half way down the mountain, it dawns on me that I DON'T HAVE THE KEYS TO THE CAR. I now have to run around the mountain, find my wife, get the keys, and run back around the mountain to get the car.
Because of this little error, I added 4 miles to my trip - after 2 1/2 miles up and down the mountain, part of which with a 30 lb. kid on my shoulders. Thankfully it was only August and the heat and humidity weren't too bad.
