OKAY.....after falling in love with the Pilot, just going to see a beautifully decked out pre-owned one that even had the DVD, at a great price......back to the drawing board!

My hubby just found out from his accountant some more specifications on what we need to buy (it's for our business) and it has to be over 6600 lbs to qualify for the tax break. The Pilot only weighs 4400 lbs.

So now, we're basically getting a Toyota Sequoia! I had originally liked these, but we thought we really didn't need it that big and they are more expensive. Now we'll just have to get a year or two older to keep the price down.

Anyone have one and like it? Love it? Hate it? One of my best friends has one and loves it, so I'm glad to at least have someone's input so far.

Uggggg....I was so set on the Pilot but I have no choice now!!!!! Twisted Evil

We've owned a few Toyotas in our family and never had a problem with any of them. I think they were all at well over 100k when they died.

You are talking different class of vehicle, though. I know absolutely nothing about the Sequoia, only that I trust the Toyota name very, very much.

My cousin got the ginormous Lexus (470?) (which I think is the Sequoia with a Lexus logo) for that tax break. I thought there was talk they will overturn that though...(but what do I know?) For what its worth, my cousin likes her ginormous Lexus.

I don't know anything about Toyotas but I think I like the word "ginormous".

It's a whopping 14 MPG city compared to the 17 MPG city of the Honda Pilot.

As long as it weighs over 6,000 lbs and you use it >50% for work, then yes.

It comes from a 'loophole' giving business owners a break when they buy a heavy truck... delivery, flatbed, construction. But woudn't you know it, auto manufacturers caught wind of it and got SUVs big enough that they crest the poundage floor for getting the accelerated depreciation and such. I wouldn't say it's for 'the rich', because when you figure in the costs of owning a beast over 6600-lbs, I dare say the tax advantage probably disappears.
Molly, has the accountant done a comparison of a few different vehicles would be costwise and not just assumed the tax break is a slam dunk better deal versus something like the Pilot? I know it's tempting to go for the "tax break" because it's there and you can, but bottomline analysis might be such that you'll spend more in the end with the big rig afterall.

Good thoughts, thanks. I'll make sure we're checking in to that side of it.

big fat ONE here

my neighbor is a self-employed salesman who never leaves his house for business, except to go to China maybe once every 24 months. never leaves his house. he bought a huge beastmobile to qualify for the poundage write off. he bought it in september and hasn't driven it more than 2 times. it was sticker shock at the pump for them and so, it sits in the garage.

Throw a few weights in the back of the Pilot and get it...you'll regret not getting it later...it is an awesome auto!

(yeah, I know about the "for the business" deal. Bummer. Sad )
