JCPenney is thisclose to losing a good customer. I placed an order for some blinds Sunday night because they were on sale and I had a promotion for free ship!!!!! My total was $543.69
Today, I get an email that says they had to split the order into 3 parts because some were coming direct ship from manufacturer:
Here's my bills: $199.36 $168.80 $243.07 = $611.23
Quite the difference???? so I call and say that there's a discrepency that I was quoted 2 blinds at 47.99 and now they are suddenly $80 a piece. Her answer: "that was an estimate". me: "okay, I don't want them" her: "they are custom-made, you can't return" me: "I'm not returning...I'm cancelling" her: "your invoice has been charged" Me: "I need to talk to someone else about this...you can't change a price and inform the customer later....not to mention that you are now charging me shipping."
she then said she'll put in a request for the price adjustment, it'll take 5-6 days. We'll see if the customer is right.

That should be easy enough to dispute with your credit card company. It won't solve your problem, but at least you won't have to pay for the blinds.

If you have all your paperwork, you have a good case if ya want to take them to small claims. It will cost them far more for the lawyer than to settle with you.
You can also report them to State Consumer Affairs, not to mention the local paper and TV station consumer affairs reporters, who by the way, love that sort of thing.
Hope you do not have to go to that much trouble. If it is in writing, it is a contract. If there is no mention of estimate on there, it is not an estimate. If it is not in writing, it is an implied contract, but harder to prove.
I have been thru this before.
Good Luck!

whoowee....don't mess with RangerG.
yep.....I printed out my order confirmation and my print out is different that what shows under what the order number shows online currently----so they changed the order confirmation number.
I have been very impressed with JCP in the past....we'll see.
I tend not to take things too far, if a company does do good by me...I buy somewhere else.

Don't buy from them online. I've had tremendous success with them in the store, but online is handled very differently. Perfect example: I bought a gift card online through one of my incentive clubs 3 weeks ago. I used the gift card in its entirety this weekend. I got the receipt confirming my purchase yesterday.
They also do state on any online order very clearly that it is only an estimate. Hope it works out for you.

That just sucks. I bet if you yell loud enough they will make it right.
It is just good business.

that stinks!! penneys is a customer oriented place tho' they should make it good for you.
i ordered some clothes online last weekend - the order was about $180.00--all the stuff was on sale so i felt good about it. the stupid shipping was an extra $20.00. I open the box and right on top there is a huge catalogue saying: FREE SHIPPING EFFECTIVE TODAY ON ALL ORDERS OVER $150.00.
i complained (b!tched) and they reluctantly gave me a credit for it.
i'll believe it when i see my statement.
