Why is it that they always interview the most redneck, coonass, ghetto, or generally impoverished people on the news? These are the people that "represent" Louisiana when viewed on national broadcasts. Can we at least mix it up so people don't think we're all like that?

The reason they interview those is because they are usually the ones out trying to find out if their only posessions in the world are still around. Poor people are usually the ones impacted the most during one of these events. ESPECIALLY in Louisiana/Mississippi. There are some severely destitute people there whose entire life is now even worse.
The last few prior hurricane stories have focused on big dream homes right on the beach being carried away. While I understand it's still a big loss, and many might have had their entire savings in that house...I have more compassion for the loss of the down home folks. Those who can't afford insurance. Those who can't afford to buy new furniture and will be in a shelter for several months with their two kids and the garbage bag full of items they evacuated with.

I do remember an interview with a couple with a Hurricane years ago (Andrew maybe?) it should their big coastal home swept away and they were like, "when we get the insurance, we'll build another right here on this spot". The interviewer "and what about the next big storm and it gets blown away again"......."we'll just build a new one". I just sat there thinking rich DA

Reminds me of the landslides here in Cali. The rich who built right along the cliffs were the only ones affected. They talked about rebuilding as close to the same spot as before. WTH??
And all of us pay for these multi-million dollar insurance payoffs through higher premiums. T'ain't fair I tell ya.

Hey, I saw "The Waterboy" and that's what the La people looked like in that movie too!
I know exactly what you mean, though. We get tons of tornadoes around here in the summer months, and they are always interviewing the people on tv, afterwards who had their trailer destroyed.
