SINCE.....I did leave my area. i already know.

there are 3 things i MUST have within 24 hours (ok, more like 4 hours) of steppinginto the region.

1. A Philly cheese steak. ( any place that calls it a steak and cheese should get

2. a real Itailian Hoagie. oregno just falling all over and off the hoagie (note it's not a Sub, not a sandwhich but a hoagie.)

3. a soft pretzel, off the street corner loaded with salt

Ponczkis & Pierogis! There's a Polish grocery store by me, and they sell Pierogis year-round. Ponczkis are Fat Tuesday treats. The only other place I can think of that would have these readily available is Detroit--and ain't no way in heck I'm moving to Detroit.

ask me about our Polish Au Pair who cooked almost 200 Pierogis the "right" way and we will have plenty left over.

If I were to move, I would miss cheese steaks. I would not, however, miss Philly cheese steaks. You should never eat anything called a "Philly cheese steak", only "cheese steak". Locals know what I'm talking about.

Mexican, in all its forms: homemade tamales, enchiladas, fresh corn tortillas, migas, etc etc. Anything else outside of Texas isn't Mexican. I thought it was, then I moved here. Its not.

Kolachis, although it would be wonderful to avoid them.

Texas-style BBQ. Very different (but better) than Kentucky style.

yes
though I once at a place in Phoenix that said Philly cheese steak. I inquired of the owner why he calls them that and he said...I am from Philly, I import my rolls and steak from PA. I said oh yeah what company for the rolls. He said...Amoroso ...I said, serve it up and I will be the judge of that. It was just like being at home.

I've never had a choice, even their spaghetti has a mexican flair to it.
