Posted: 02/07/05 - 18:25 Post subject: recent headphones endorsements
I know, we could all do searches for "headphones" both here and CR and get dozens of (what I find to be valid) reasons for not wearing headphones outdoors most of the time. So, what do the rest of you who are with me on this make of the recent articles lauding the use of mp3 players while training outside? I'm referring specifically to "Hit the Trails" Running times December '04 and "Hey! Ho! Let's Go!" Runner's World March '05. What do you make of this? Do I just need to resume my pantophobia therapy?

As it stands I get distracted while I'm running and don't pay attention to stuff, so I can imagine how bad I'd be if I was listening to music while trying to cross the road. I'd be a dead pugger.

If you're cautious, I don't think running with headphones would be a problem. Many people probably aren't as cautious as they should be though. Those articles won't sway my opinion though... I'm a running purist.

Phillips/Nike, Sony, RCA... the list goes on for potential advertisers. As much as I'd like to believe the editors are non-bias, they do have pressure to make money at what they do, so when it comes to running "products", there's some vested interest there to write "pro" articles.

True, and perhaps for a running "product" there might be one or two standout headsets compared to the rest of the field. If that's what you're looking for.

Nah...I try not to carry too much with me during my runs except my HRM and on long runs, especially during warm days, water/gatorade. It's already bad enough with a jiggling waterbottle pack...

I don't go out for a run unless I have my MP3 player, Cambelbak, Timex GPS, Polar HRM, and fully loaded fuel belt.
Sometimes I'll even pack a light lunch and bring along an extra pair of shoes, just in case.

Yeah, that's a disappointing but probably accurate theory...

I don't wear any while running outside...to scared that I won't be able to hear what is going on around me...which by the way I am not running outside anymore because there is some psycho running around raping women...grabbing them and throwing them into his van
Inside, I wear ones like Cappy showed.
