But the Republicans wouldn't dare run her as vice president there would be a screaming hissy fit.

I am thinking of putting together Runners for Rice!

I have to agree with you, she 'might' be awesome, but how can we know? She does as told and I don't see her personality or conviction. Although I'd vote for her because I think she'd be safe as the 'first' woman representative. So, I think she's a great choice because of her liklihood of NOT being awesome, just being effective. I want safe, because I don't want future generations to say "hey, we tried that woman thing and it didn't go so well...." Now IS a good time because I don't think in my lifetime there has been too many good men. Hard to believe that we are a world power and we can't say "hey, we tried that woman thing...." It's shameful, really.

You forget Geraldine Ferraro.

If the Democrats name one, Republicans will say they (Dems) are scared of losing a key part of their base. If the Republicans name one, Democrats will say they (Reps) are using her as window dressing, to take votes away from the Dems. Whoever it would be would not be taken seriously, no matter which party names her.

Its a shame we have to discuss the "black" and the"female" part of this. Shouldn't we be discussing the qualifications part of the equation ?

Dr Rice is eminently qualified, certainly more so in foreign issues than even her boss. Another viable person would be Senator Elizabeth Dole - plenty of experience in domestic policies. For the other side, Hillary C would be good. Personally she needs another Senate term for more experience and credibility.

Geraldine Ferraro ? Please - she wasn't a viable anything. Strictly a window dressing ploy for the "feminist" vote. Just look at the history of her campaign and see what sort of candidate she was. (After about 30 years some details are conveniently forgotten)

I was merely indicating that Ferraro was the first woman nominated - a fait accompli. Viable or not was not the question.

Unfortuantely, the media and the political system will not allow candidates to be judged on their records and accomplishments, no matter of gender/race/the area of the country they come from/you name it. We can talk qualifications or liabilities of candidates here without the references to personal identification. On the national scale, unfortunately, that just does not happen.

no the balck and female was exactly what I was looking for

the key to this is nominated as VP

Seems to me if the Republicans nominated a black female VP there would be all sorts of howling from the usual suspects - while the Democrats would be met with cheers.

The inherent problem is, no matter who gets picked male or female, they will not be "conservative/liberal" enough for either party. Personally, the howling would come from either side on any number of issues. Just look at what happened with the latest Supreme Court nominations.

who do you think the usual suspects to be??? just wondering. I do agree with you, I see liberals being able to put a female in office WAY before conservatives. I think the vote she wouldn't get would be from conservative women. I think women are tough on women. I suspect the biggest Hillary bashers are women.
