My girlfriend works at the Pentagon, as does her husband, and at the time of the attacks, her then 1yo daugher was in their on-site daycare as well. She has told me the story of what she witnessed, and I still cannot fathom it. She and hubby still work there, but Kelsey is no longer at that daycare.
At the time, I knew Amy only in passing on our July 2000 babies board, and no one had any sort of contact information for her, we just knew she worked at the Pentagon. I was able to find her parents, using information a board member had (someone did know what city she lived in) via classmates.com (who knew how handy that site could be) and we have ever since been very close friends.
She's of course upset with the anniversary coming up, and last year I was on the ball enough to send a card via snail mail, but this year I dropped the ball and had to send an ecard instead. If you know a survivor, do you do anything special at this time of year? I wondered at first if I should, but then last year Amy was so appreciative that I was thinking of her that I thought I'd do it again. I don't get too heavy, just tell her that I'm glad she is here and that we became friends. Well, I do tell her how brave and strong I think she is... but God, wouldn't you have to be? I cannot imagine going to work there every day, and I don't care how safe they say it is. I'd be a wreck...

Don't know any survivors, but I continue to live my life to the fullest despite the continous threats against this great country. I have flown twice, and have no fear to do so again.
No act of cowardice against this country will ever take that away. To cower in fear is to lose to the terrorist.

No terrorist has answered by call to meet me in the street, man to man, no weapons, to slug it out. When I win they will leave the country alone.
If they don't want to meet me man to man, then screw them cowards.

No. I personally don't know any survivors or people who were lost on 9/11.
However...I just pray. I pray for those lost souls, those heartbroken families and hope for a better world. I just pray. ~sigh~

No, but I do know guardsmen who had to go secure the tunnels and bridges and one who worked at a landfill in New York sorting through debris and rubble that was brought to them from the site. They found some very sad things there.

Yeah. We're all 9/11 survivors in one way or another.

I lost a HS friend in the north tower, I also went to school with his widow (she's a survivor - gave birth to their sixth child months after 9/11)
I also work with people who used to work in building 6WTC, which was eventually totaled, but no physical fatalities but a few mental from what they experienced that day.

I do not know any of the survivors. However the brother of my best friend was the head of the State Department group that was trying to track down terrorists, including Bin Laden, at the time of the attacks. Talk about a guilt trip.
Also, working for Social Security, I had to take survivor's claims of a handful of the WTC victims. The emotions ranged from, well, pretty much what you would expect.

Yes. My little brother Alex is FDNY as is my cousin Robbie. My brother lost 9 guys from his house. He was off at the time (I called him, he was working outdoors at the time). He rushed off to the towers, and I think there might have been some devine intervention because someone actually would not let him pass on the highway as he rushed to the trade center, the guy kept going out of his way to block his path. My brother arrived just in time to see the tower fall.
My cousin was working that day, but arrived to work 30 minutes later than usual because he drove his son to his first day of kindergarden. He worked at the Brooklyn headquarters with all the brass, most of whom perished that day.
My friend Stevie worked on the one of the upper levels of tower one but was on a business trip.
My other friend Sil worked on the 32nd floor and got out.
My cousin Dave worked at Amex in building 7, the first that collapsed after the towers.
I used to work across the street at Bankers Trust and an on the other side at Bank of New York. My stop was always under the Trade Center.

I know many who died, and many more who survived because they were late that morning for some reason or somehow managed to get out. On 9/11 I worked in a federal building in center city, and remember what a nightmare it was to get out of this city. You could literally see the police frantically closing it down, street by street, because of the history here and no one knowing what, if anything, would be targeted next. This was nothing compared to my brother, who worked two blocks from the WTC and saw everything happening, knowing he was watching many of his friends perish. He's still in intensive therapy for it; can't deal with survivor guilt. It took my family almost 12 hours to locate my BIL and SIL, who arrived in the city that day separately, somehow managed to find each other in all the chaos, and walked across the bridge hand-in-hand to get home to NJ.
Before I moved to Philly I worked in fashion, and had many vendors in the WTC complex, including buildings 1 & 2. I was there at least three days a week for three years, and like monk, used the PATH under the WTC during my commute. I was there the day before and the day after the bombing in 1993, and remember how bad that was, so I was very thankful that I no longer worked in the city on that fateful day.
I still correspond with many of the families of people I knew, including a high school classmate who married another classmate, her high school sweetheart. She was 7 months pregnant when he died, and often sends me pictures of the kids. Somehow this touches me the most. Needless to say, it's been a rough week.

We all do if we come from CR. Dervin worked at Morgan Stanley and was in the one tower at the time the plane hit. Fortunately he was on a floor lower than the crash site and was able to get out and help others get out as well, I believe. We were all worried about him that day--and Sue in NYC saw the whole thing from the ferry on the way over from Staten Island. She was absolutely awesome through the whole thing, making phone calls for people whose families were up there and couldn't get through long distance, and I know her hubby worked with the Red Cross doing radio communications at Ground Zero as well. She lost a lot of friends from the Staten Island police and fire also I think.
My friend Marybeth's husband worked in the WTC but thankfully was called out to a last minute meeting that morning or he would have been right about where the plane hit. I remember it was all day trying to find him since the phone lines were down and she was frantic. I think after that is when she quit working here and started her own consulting company to get out of the corporate rat race and spend more time with her family. Stuff like this really makes you see what's important.
