I seem to have developed a problem lately with people paying me on time. I bill at the beginning and end of the month, and most of my clients are good about paying me within a few days but a couple (including one that just started last month!) are BRUTAL. One of these people is the mom who screwed up her subsidy form so I am currently 6 weeks behind in payment from her.
Now granted, it seems like the less the amount the longer they take to pay but you add several of those little bills up and it's several hundred dollars owed to me. It is now Feb 9 and I billed on Jan 31.
I am considering sending nasty notes home to the offenders that they have seven days to pay me or I start charging interest. Opinions?
PS I'm especially ticked because Tof went out of town and had to drain every last penny out of my account to make mortgage. I'm flat busted until someone gives me some money.

You have a right to be peeved.

I always try to pay our day care as soon as I can. Sometimes I forget or something, and she'll have to wait a day or two...but that is it.

You just need to be proactive on this one, and tell them, I need to get paid. If I don't, I'll be unable to watch your child.

I wouldn't give the option of interest. Send a nice little note home telling them you need to be paid now, that you are so glad to have been able to keep the monthly price so low because your clients make their payments on time. "Payment required by February XX".

It's business not personal.

Mine issues notes that daycare will cease until they get paid. I got one just last week, but it was because they didn't know to apply my check to Ian's account where we have different last names.

I would suggest doing the same.

That sucks! I owned a business once and had to deal with that and I hated having to ask people to pay up. On the one hand you don't want to tick them off and lose the busines sbut on the other hand you gotta eat.
