Went to the itunes website, and was looking around.
Pretty cool..that it's legal...and the prices are good.
I'm definately considering getting an mp3 player...and using itunes to buy most of my new music.
Here's my question. and yes it's probably a stupid one.
Do you need to buy an actual ipod from apple to use with their itunes stuff? Or will another brand work?
also...
Are there adpaters/jacks/ plug in devices availible so you can run your mp3 player in the car...on your home stereo...etc, etc...?

I know that you can use their mp3s on any device that will play mp3s. I am getting music from them also, I love that they're not expensive and legal. I'd rather pay for my music than 1) go to jail/pay fines or 2) set a bad example to my kids.
Not sure about your other question.
I have an Archos jukebox, it's not near as nice as the iPods seem to be. Haven't used it in ages since when I run, I'm on the mill and I use the computer for the tunes. Libby is asking her grandmother for a mini iPod for her birthday in May. It's a bit more reasonable ($250, yipes that's still expensive) and holds a lot of tunes, certainly enough for Libby. Heck, enough for me for that matter. Plus they come in pretty colors! w00t!

An MP3 is an MP3 is an MP3. It's a file format that is not operating system, hardware, or software specific. Think pictures - you can view a .jpeg online, in a Word doc, a .pdf, a viewer, pretty much anywhere. You can even create one in one software package, manipulate it with another software package, and post it with different code as a mighty delicious avatar. The iTune site, which I agree is phenomenal, is genius because you can create MP3s, not just "iPod files"m that you can use with any type of MP3 player. Apparently Apple has learned their lessons about making things too proprietary to their systems.
And yes, there are adaptors to make them work with your car, etc. Though CDs are still easier to use.

MP3 quality sucks. It's supposed the same as CD, but it's not. The Demo Car From H*ll has MP3 capabilities and it is nowhere near the same quality as CD. If you're going to pay for it, you may as well buy CDs.

You can sample [?] MP3s at different compression rates. More compressed = crap quality, smaller file. Less compressed = high quality, larger file size.

Ah...this makes sense. The car has a Kenwood MusicKeg that can download up to 1400 songs. They must have it set for quantity and not quality. Every little defect in music quality is audible in this car. I use the subs to blowdry my hair on road trips.
Black Eyed Peas at 1600 watts, anyone?

Not necessarily true. If you rip it at CD quality, it does indeed sound like CD. The downside is the files are HUGE, and as such you can't fit as many tunes on a player (hence the power of the iPod which holds tons). That's why most people burn at less-than-CD quality, so the sound is obviously not as clear.
