Karlene,
I posted my thoughts on Depo in health, wellness forum. You might want to take a look before getting Depo. I tell every woman I know not to do it because I had trouble with it.
IUDs are scary. I would imagine you could feel it too, so could men. Ick. You continue to menstrate. Double ick. Plus periods could be heavier and more painful.

Periods are NOT heavier and more painful with the Mirena. With the regular one, perhaps. Mirena has progesterone in it, which keeps the uterine lining from getting too thick, hence lighter periods. I've loved my IUD from day one.
And no, the man cannot feel it. I've asked. Not an issue. You yourself cannot feel it unless you're trying to, and it involves a finger. You cannot feel it in your uterus. If you can, something has gone terribly wrong.
As far as them being scary, well yeah, if you don't educate yourself about it, I guess so. It is a little crampy there for a bit after getting it put in, but it beats the crampy of childbirth contractions. That's the only thing that was unpleasant. And like anything other than abstience, you can get pregnant, as Karlene illustrated. But the percentage is no greater than when using the pill, and a hell of a lot more convenient than any pill. And yes, there is a risk of miscarriage with it if you try to remove it while you're pregnant -- that's the biggest concern, but again, most don't get pregnant while using the IUD. I've found, also, that I seldom get migraines these days -- always got those with my period and with the pill. I get maybe 2 per year now, if that.
I've had mine for 5 years now. I've never regretted the decision. It is not the right choice for everyone, certainly, but I've tried a lot of different methods and this is the best one so far. I think it is riskier to start tying things up than to insert a little doodad.
