radio stations are talking about pulling Micheal Jackson's new single from the air waves because of the trial and all that. given that he hasn't be convicted yet... here's some food for thought:

R. Kelly who was convicted (and i do believe charged) with having relations with a minor and FILMED it (it's on kazaa if you look hard enough - complete with urinating on the young girls face) had one of the biggest songs of the year with Ignition, and didn't seem to have any problems getting airplay (in fact it was kind've hard to avoid the song). hmmm...

so, i didn't know you could tape child porn, get charged for it, and still have all your songs and albums and videos played...

but one certain pop star is accused (not yet proven - regardless of if he's innocent or not) and now they're yanking his stuff?

talk about a double standard. Confused

Hmmmm...that's really weird why the double standard was applied in this case. Could it be because of Mike's looks?? Or is it b/c he's been around alot longer than R Kelly and his songs have somewhat fallen out of fashion? Confused

It's probably got something to do with how well R Kelly's single did vs. the new one by MJ. I'm pretty sure that R Kelly's broke the top 10 but I think I heard that MJ's newest barely made it into the top 50. It would be easier to pull a song from rotation that wasn't getting much airplay any way than it would to have this big hole in your weekly "Top 10" count down. I mean, how you gonna skip from number 6 to number 4 and not have people notice?

I also think R Kelly is much more popular than Michael now. I think MJ is a has been.

Well, it's not right, and I don't have a lot of reasons here, but it could be because of popularity, it could also be because for some time now, many have considered MJ a freak. Seems like there's been talk for ages about his Neverland ranch, and that there have been other children in the past who claimed he abused them. Then the thing where he dangled his child of the balcony, his whole skin/face issues...

I don't think it is right, but if you find that a star is already falling out of favor, you drop his music if you want to keep your listeners? Maybe?

I didn't know about R Kelly.

dunno I just heard a Michael Jackson 'drive time' mix on Friday on the way home. All old school stuff but it was about 20 minutes straight of only MJ....Also, MJ's new album only just came out the day of the raid, I think its a little early to say whether or not its a hit. I'm not condoning MJ here at all. I just think its interesting the politics the radio station conglomerates play. Reminds me of the Dixie Chick thing. And I also noticed how R. Kelly's charges almost inflated his career, or so the radio would have you believe. I don't know.

If you don't follow the music industry (me), you have no idea who R.Kelly is, but there's no way around knowing who Michael Jackson is. So pulling his music is a much bigger statement than pulling a lesser known like the R.Kellys out there.

R. Kelly currently has the #2 R&B single (42 weeks on the chart) and #11 R&B Album right now. R. Kelly is hot stuff right now.

When's the last time MJ had a top 40 hit/album? MJ is old and busted.

MJ's music should be pulled from the airwaves because it sucks.

I don't know, he was a little tired after "I believe I can fly" He was kind of "90s" after that.
He did have "I wish" (also 2001) but I didn' think it was that big. He hasn't gotten huge until recently (Ignition and then more recnetly Step in the name of love, Thoia Thong) which ties up (I think) nicely with his recent notoriety.
